School Site Council
School Site Council (SSC): A School Site Council (SSC) in is a group at each public school that helps plan and oversee how the school improves student learning, especially how certain state and federal funds are spent.
- Who’s on it: Principal, teachers, other staff, and parents/community members. The group must be balanced (staff and non-staff). Hirsch currently has 5 staff members on the council. Unfortunately all 5 of our parents are no longer available. Therefore, we need 5 parents to join us.
- Main job: Approve, and monitor the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA)—the school’s goals, strategies, and budget for improving outcomes.
- Meetings: Public, with agendas and minutes; typically meet several times a year.
- Authority: Votes to approve the SPSA and budget for programs like Title I; monitors progress and recommends revisions.
- Why it matters: Gives families and staff a voice in priorities (academics, climate, interventions) and how funds support those goals.
